The order of distribution
Before any heir receives a share, four steps are taken in this order:
- Funeral and burial costs are paid from the estate.
- All debts of the deceased are paid — money owed to people, unpaid bills, an unpaid mahr.
- Wasiyyat (bequest) is paid, but not more than one-third of what is left. A bequest to an heir is not valid without the consent of the other heirs.
- The remainder is divided according to the fixed Qur'anic shares and the residue rules.

What the engine handles
Asaba: a son takes the residue and the daughter half of it (2:1). Hajb: a son blocks the son's son; a father blocks the grandfather; a son or grandson blocks the siblings. Awl: when fixed shares exceed the estate, every share is scaled down proportionally. Radd: when shares total less and there is no residuary, the surplus returns to the fixed-share heirs — except the spouse, and except in the Shafi'i school. Umariyyatan: with a spouse and a father, the mother takes one-third of the remainder.
تقسیم کی ترتیب
کسی وارث کو حصہ ملنے سے پہلے چار کام اسی ترتیب سے ہوتے ہیں:
- تجہیز و تکفین کا خرچ ترکہ سے ادا کیا جاتا ہے۔
- میت کے تمام قرضے ادا کیے جاتے ہیں — لوگوں کے واجبات، بقایا بل، غیر ادا شدہ مہر۔
- وصیت پوری کی جاتی ہے، لیکن بچی رقم کے ایک تہائی سے زیادہ نہیں۔ وارث کے حق میں وصیت باقی ورثاء کی رضامندی کے بغیر نافذ نہیں ہوتی۔
- باقی رقم قرآنی حصوں اور بقیہ (عصبہ) کے قواعد کے مطابق تقسیم ہوتی ہے۔

Why does a son receive twice a daughter's share?بیٹے کو بیٹی سے دگنا کیوں ملتا ہے؟
This is the rule in Qur'an 4:11 — the male receives the portion of two females. A son also carries the financial obligations of the family, while a daughter's share belongs entirely to her.
یہ قرآن ۴:۱۱ کا حکم ہے — مرد کو دو عورتوں کے حصے کے برابر ملتا ہے۔ بیٹے پر خاندان کی مالی ذمہ داریاں بھی ہوتی ہیں، جبکہ بیٹی کا حصہ مکمل طور پر اسی کا ہے۔
What are awl and radd?عول اور رد کیا ہیں؟
Awl: the fixed shares add up to more than the estate, so every share is reduced proportionally. Radd: the shares add up to less and there is no residuary heir, so the surplus returns to the fixed-share heirs (not the spouse) — in the Hanafi, Maliki and Hanbali schools. The Shafi'i school does not apply radd here.

Why is the grandfather with brothers not calculated?دادا کے ساتھ بھائی کی صورت کیوں شمار نہیں ہوتی؟
When the paternal grandfather shares with brothers or sisters, the schools use different methods (muqasama and others) and the result changes case by case. The calculator refuses this combination rather than guessing — consult a scholar.
