Image converter
Turn JPG into PNG or WebP, resize to a pixel width, rotate and flip — several images at once. The conversion happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

What conversion can and cannot do
- JPG → PNG. The file becomes lossless from that point on, but the detail already discarded by JPG is not recovered. Expect a much larger file and, usually, no visible improvement. Use it when you need lossless editing or transparency.
- PNG → JPG. Transparency is filled with the background colour you choose, and the file gets smaller. Photographs usually look fine; sharp logos and text can show ringing around edges.
- → WebP. WebP is smaller than JPG at similar quality and supports transparency. Older software and some government portals still reject it, so check the required format before submitting.
- GIF. An animated GIF is read at its first frame. The animation is not preserved; use a dedicated tool if you need to convert motion.
- HEIC. Most desktop browsers cannot decode HEIC. On an iPhone, set the camera to Most Compatible or share the photo as a JPG first.
Resizing without softness
When an image is reduced by a large factor, a single drawImage call can produce jagged edges. This converter halves the image step by step until it is within twice the final size, then makes the final resample with high-quality smoothing. That is slower than a single step but visibly cleaner on detailed photos.
Rotation is applied before the long-edge limit, so a portrait photo rotated to landscape uses the landscape edge for the limit. Transparent pixels are preserved for PNG and WebP; for JPG they are filled with the colour you pick, white by default.
Worked example. A 2 MB PNG screenshot of text converted to WebP at quality 0.8 often lands at 200–400 KB with the text still crisp. The same screenshot as JPG may be smaller but can show ringing around letters, while a 2 MB phone photo saved as PNG usually grows several times over because PNG is lossless. Choose the format for the job, then convert once.
When to use which format
| Format | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos, scanned documents, form uploads | No transparency; repeated saving loses detail |
| PNG | Logos, screenshots, text, anything with transparency | Large photo files |
| WebP | Websites that accept it; small files with transparency | Not accepted by every form or older app |

Questions people ask
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in this tab using the browser's canvas. There is no upload endpoint, the files are not stored, and they disappear when you close the page.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. Conversion changes the container, not the detail that was already lost. A JPG converted to PNG usually becomes several times larger without looking better. Use PNG only when you need lossless editing or transparency.
Why did my transparent logo get a background?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels must be filled. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency, or set the JPG background colour before converting.
Can it convert HEIC or GIF?
Most browsers cannot decode HEIC, so iPhone HEIC photos need to be exported as JPG first. Animated GIFs are converted using the first frame only; the animation is not preserved.
Does resizing keep the quality?
Downscaling is clean when the long edge is reduced in steps, and it often makes an image look sharper on screen. Upscaling adds pixels but no new detail, so avoid it when the original is available.
What happens to photo metadata?
The converted file is rebuilt from pixels, so EXIF camera data, GPS location, thumbnails and most embedded metadata are removed. A wide-gamut colour profile may also be dropped, which can shift very saturated colours slightly.
